[34.15] Chandra Observations of 4 Giant Elliptical Galaxies

R.F. Mushotzky (NASA/GSFC)

We report deep (~50ks) Chandra observations of NGC1399,NGC 1404, NGC4636 and NGC4472. We will present the luminosity function, spectra and spatial position of the numerous point sources (presumably x-ray binaries) in the field. We will set tight upper limits on the emission from the putative supermassive black holes in the centers of these galaxies. We will also present preliminary analysis of the temperature structure of these galaxies and their abundance profiles. We will also discuss a "mysterious spiral like" structure in the Fe L emission from NGC 4636
