[21.08] Stellar Orbital Structure around Supermassive Black Holes

K. Gebhardt (UCO/Lick Observatory), D.O. Richstone (University of Michigan)

The mass of a central black hole in bulge galaxies has significant consequences on the stellar orbital structure and provides crucial information about its evolutionary history. We will present recent black-hole mass determinations and the stellar orbital distribution using fully-general dynamical models for a large set of galaxies. The models use the maxmimum obtainable kinematic information from both ground-based and HST/STIS observations. The results show general trends amongst the galaxies and suggest a common evolutionary history. We will present possible correlations between the orbital characteristics with various galaxy properties. Through comparing these correlations and trends with various formational scenarios for both the black hole and the galaxy, we will determine the dominant forces that determined the present dynamical state of these systems.
