[2.51] Investigating the Possibility of Associations between X-Ray Spectral Evolution and Eruptive Phenomena

E. K. Newton (NASA MSFC), P. Woods (USRA)

In previous investigations, we found consistent patterns of spectral evolution in the >30 keV hard X-rays emitted during solar flares. The characteristics of the observed spectral evolution support the idea that the particle acceleration mechanism is responsible for modulating the X-ray spectra in time and energy, rather than time-of-flight effects and trapping time differences. We report on a preliminary study of spectral evolution in flares associated with coronal mass ejections. Our interest lies in determining whether a given pattern of spectral evolution can be correlated with eruptive phenomena.
