The USA Experiment made 208 pointed observations of XTE J1859+226 during its first observed outburst(October 15, 1999 to December 16, 1999). The combined power spectra of observations in the very high state show an excess of Leahy power in the 50 to 300 Hz range. Specifically, three possible QPOs have been fit in this frequency range at 67± Hz, 134± Hz and 193± Hz. These results are consistent with similar RXTE observations. Also, a low frequency QPO is detected at 5 Hz. The energy dependence of the 5 Hz QPO and low frequency noise is studied.
Basic research in X-ray Astronomy at the Naval Research Laboratory is supported by the Office of Naval Research. Work at SLAC was supported by Department of Energy contract DE-AC03-76SF00515.
