[12.02] XMM-Newton Results on High Resolution Spectroscopy

A.C. Brinkman (SRON , Space Research Organisation of the Netherlands), Reflection Grating Spectrometer Team

The XMM-Newton spacecraft was launched early December 1999 in a 48-hour orbit. The Payload contains three large area Wolter-1 type X-ray telescopes with CCD-based imaging spectrometers in their foci.In addition ,behind two of the three telescopes there is a reflection grating array and a dedicated back illuminated CCD based detector to read-out the spectral image. The X-ray package is complemented by an Optical Monitor.

Results from the Calibration and Performance Verification phase from the Reflection Grating Spectrometer ,RGS will be discussed. The targets include , coronea of stars, binaries, supernova remnants, active galactic nuclei and clusters of galaxies.
