[13.11] Effect of Galaxy Formation on the Physical State of the Intra-Cluster Medium: X-Raying the Star Formation History

N. Menci (Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma), A. Cavaliere (Dip. Fisica, II Univers. di Roma)

I will discuss the effects of galaxy formation on the thermal state of the intra-cluster medium. Using a semi-analytic modelling for galaxy evolution in common halos (describing galaxy merging, gas cooling, star formation and supernovae heating/expulsion of cold gas) we derived the whole history of the non-gravitational energy input from galaxtic Supernovae to the intra-cluster medium. Such heating is known to be present and to severely affect the X-ray properties of galaxy clusters. I will discuss the effects of different galaxy formation scenarios and star formation recipes on X-ray observables like the X-ray luminosity-temperature relation, the X-ray counts and the X-rays-SZ correlation (where SZ is the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect). I will discuss how present and forthcoming X-ray observations can constrain present galaxy formation models.
