[41.10] Theoretical Examination of the Lithium Depletion Boundary

C. J. Burke, M. H. Pinsonneault (Ohio State University)

We explore the sensitivity in the open cluster ages obtained by the lithium depletion boundary (LDB) technique to the stellar model input parameters. We compare the LDB luminosity-age relation calculated using a solar-calibrated model including the latest model inputs to that with variations in the mixing length, metallicity, and using older generation model inputs. These variations lead to systematic differences in the age of order 10%. In addition, we examine the effect of rotation. Rotating models predict older ages than non-rotating models with increasing ages for lower masses and increasing ages for faster rotating stars. Preliminary results show that if the LDB is obtained from fast-rotating stars, the effect of rotation is to increase the age by 20-25% over the non-rotating predictions for intermediate age clusters (>120Myr) with only a 1-3% increase in age for younger clusters (30-50 Myr).
