[67.03] Searching for Earth-like extrasolar planets with the Corot and Eddington space missions.

Corot will be the first space mission devoted to detect Earth-like extrasolar planets. It will be launched in 2004. Eddington is an ESA space project designed to detect Earth-like planets in the habitable zone of G stars. The other objective of both missions is stellar seismology. The method of detection of planets is to search for their transits for stars at a few hundred pc. We will present the spacecrafts, the search strategies, the number of stars monitored and the expected results for the two missions. Finally a new concept, Treasure (submitted to ESA in January 2000), with the goal of searching for transits of Earth-like planets around nearby stars, is presented. Other applications of the transit method, such as the measurement of the mass of giant planet satellites, will be shown.
