[41.03] A Spectroscopic Survey of h+\chi Persei

A.E. Bragg, S.J. Kenyon (Harvard-Smithsonian CfA)

We describe preliminary results from an optical spectroscopic survey of the Double Cluster, h + \chi Persei, a pair of dense open clusters with ages between 10 and 20 million years (e.g., Vogt A&A 11:359). We currently have spectra of over 1000 stars, complete to V=15.4, covering an area within 9 arc-minutes of the center of each cluster. We plan to extend this survey to fainter magnitudes over a larger area. In our current sample, \approx80% of the stars are B- and A-type cluster members. The sample contains \approx10 Be stars per cluster, several of which were previously unknown. A preliminary HR diagram will be displayed, as well as color magnitude diagrams using optical (VR) and near-IR (JHK) photometry.
