[82.03] Looking at SNR 0519-69.0 with Chandra's ACIS: a High -Resolution View of X-ray Structure

R. N. M. Williams (NRC / NASA's GSFC), R. Petre, S. Holt (NASA's GSFC)

The young, Balmer-dominated SNR 0519-69.0 in the Large Magellanic Cloud is of the class of objects typified by the Tycho supernova remnant, thought to be the remnants of Type Ia supernovae. Recent observations with Chandra's Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer have shown the X-ray structure of the object in unprecedented detail. ACIS's combination of spatial and spectral resolution allow us to distinguish the circumstellar material shocked by the outward blast wave from the reverse-shocked ejecta; to investigate the balance of thermal and nonthermal X-ray emission; and to compare the X-ray emission to radio emission obtained by Dickel et al. (1995, AJ, 109, 200).
