[79.14] The Metallicity Dispersion in the Draco dSph Galaxy

R.A. Winnick, R. Zinn (Yale)

The dispersion in Ca abundance has been measured from 108 spectrograms of 78 red giants in Draco, taken with the Hydra multiobject spectrograph on the WIYN telescope. Similar spectrograms of red giants in 7 globular clusters with well established abundances provide the metallicity calibration. Our preliminary analysis yields an abundance range of -2.7\lesssim[Ca/H]\lesssim-1.2, which is consistent with previous estimates from much smaller samples of stars. The metallicity gradient in Draco is examined, and the metallicity distribution is compared with simple models of chemical evolution.
