[110.02] Near Infrared Hydrogen Emission Lines in NGC 1068

S. J. Lawson, L. V. Jones (Denison University)

We use Br\gamma, Pa\beta, [OIII](5007Å), and H\alpha narrowband images of NGC 1068, a Seyfert galaxy, to investigate metallicity and line ratios. We particularly focus on the central star forming region and the active nucleus in order to distinguish among possible heating sources of the gas. By comparing our results to standard theoretical Case B recombination ratios, we are able to identify regions where heating mechanisms other than simple photoionization may be ongoing. We present the preliminary results of this study.
