[82.11] FUSE Observations of High-Velocity Gas Toward the Vela SNR

J. Nichols, J. Slavin (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), R. Fesen (Dartmouth College), W. Blair (Johns Hopkins University)

FUSE far-UV spectra toward 7 stars in the line of sight to the Vela supernova remnant reveal high-velocity components to the interstellar line of O VI. These high velocity components are in general consistent with high velocity features seen in C IV toward these same target stars with IUE. We correlate the velocities and column densities of the O VI features with those of C IV and discuss the implications for the shock velocity and interstellar environment of the Vela supernova remnant.
