[84.02] Chandra Discovery and Optical Counterpart Identification of Possible Low-Mass X-Ray Binaries and a Cataclysmic Variable in NGC 6652

We have detected three new X-ray point sources, in addition to the known low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) X1832-330, in the globular cluster NGC 6652 with a Chandra 1.6 kilosec HRC-I exposure. Star 49 (Mv~4.7), Deutsch et al's (1998) suggested variable optical candidate for the LMXB, is identified (<1") not with the LMXB, but with another, newly detected source (B). We identify (<1") the LMXB (A) and one of the remaining new sources (C) with blue variable optical counterparts from HST archival images, at Mv~4.0 and 5.6 respectively. The other new source (D) lies in the crowded cluster core. In the 0.5-4.5 keV range, source A has Lx~6*1035 ergs/s, B has Lx~4*1033 ergs/s, while C and D have Lx~ 1*1033 ergs/s. The optical counterpart for A has V-I color of 0.4, B has V-I of 0.9 (on the main sequence), and C has V-I of 0.1. Source B is suggested as a potential quiescent low-mass X-ray binary (qLMXB), and source C as a cataclysmic variable (CV).
