[82.05] Study of the supernova remnant G18.95-1.1

I. M Harrus (NASA/GSFC), P. O Slane (SAO)

We present an analysis of data from the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA) of the supernova remnant (SNR) G18.95-1.1.

We find that G18.95-1.1 can be classified as ``thermal composite'', characterized by a thermal X-ray spectrum coupled with a centrally-bright morphology. The SNR total spectrum can be best described by a non-equilibrium ionization model with a temperature around 0.90 keV, and an ionization timescale around 1010 cm-3 s-1, associated with a column density around 1022 atoms cm-2.

We've searched elemental abundance variation within the remnant and found marginal evidence for an over-abundance of magnesium and a depletion of sulfur. These findings are discussed in the context of SNR evolution. We find no evidence of high-energy emission.

If possible, we will also present some preliminary XMM-Newton results on other SNR observations.
