[35.03] GRB Optical and Infrared Afterglows

P. M. Vreeswijk (University of Amsterdam)

Gamma-ray burst (GRB) optical and infra-red afterglow observations are reviewed. I will also discuss the indications that long-duration GRBs seem to favour the `collapsar' model. Among these are the debated connection between GRBs and supernovae, and the location of GRB afterglows with respect to their host galaxies.

PMV is supported by the NWO Spinoza grant.
