In 2000 June--July an AGN Watch Campaign on Arakelian 564 (a NLSy1) took place, involving HST, RXTE, ASCA, Chandra, XMM and several ground--based observatories. During this time we obtained 12 low--res optical spectra of Akn 564 with the 9m Hobby--Eberly Telescope (HET).
Historically, Akn 564 has shown no conclusive sign of optical variability. We will present evidence of small, but significant, optical emission--line variations. We examine this line variability in context with the observations at other wavelengths.
