[57.11] IRA: Infrared Radiometer for the BepiColombo Mission

J. Knollenberg, E. Kuehrt (DLR-Berlin)

The Infrared Radiometer (IRA) is dedicated to the measurement of the surface temperature of Mercury at the landing site during the ESA cornerstone mission BepiColombo. It is part of the HP3 (Heat Flow and Physical Properties Probe, P.I. T. Spohn) instrument package proposed for the surface element of BepiColombo. The sensorhead consists of 4 infrared channels based on thermopile detectors which measure the emitted radiation in the wavelength range 5-50 µm, a front-end-electronics with preamplifiers and a temperature stabilisation circuit, and an inflight calibration unit. The mass of the sensorhead is about 80 g, it‘s measurement temperature range is 100-800 K and the operational temperature range is –150°C to +125°C. The base for the proposed radiometer is a similar development for the MUPUS experiment onboard the Rosetta Lander.
