[10.07] A step towards enabling NVO: The new public XML archive at the ADC.

Z. Huang, E. Shaya, B. Thomas, J. Gass, J. Blackwell, G. Schneider, C. Y. Cheung (ADC-GSFC/NASA)

The Astronomical Data Center (ADC) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center holds more than 3000 catalogs and journal data tables. In this past year we have been working towards total encapsulation of our archives in an XML-based format (the ADC "Dataset" DTD).

In this poster we describe our new, translated archive and the new XML-based public services which support it. We provide the details of this new service (including several examples) and describe in detail the advantages of this new system over the old text-based README archive. Finally we review how this software, the technologies which support it and our lessons learned in developing and maintaining an XML-based archive may play a vital role in developing archives which support the National Virtual Observatory.
