[134.12] Modeling Thermal Balance and Molecular Lines Toward AFGL2591

Utilizing physical structure of van der Tak et al. (1999) we construct detailed models for the thermal balance, radiative transfer, and chemistry of massive star-forming regions. As an example, we consider AFGL 2591 in particular. The thermal balance follows the approach of Doty & Neufeld (1997) modified for different densit distributions. The radiative transfer is handled in a self-consistent way for both the continuum and the lines.

The model results are compared with recent infrared continuum observations, which help constrain the physical structure. As a test of this structure, and to further inform the distribution of material and temperature in the source, we also compare to infrared and submillimeter line observations -- especially of water.

We find remarkably good simultaneous agreement between the models and observations. These results help to provide a potentially compelling physical and chemical picture of the source.
