[11.11] Formation of Molecular Hydrogen on Amorphous Ices

G. Vidali, J. Roser, H. Weber (Syracuse University), V. Pirronello, G. Manico' (Universita' di Catania, Sicily (Italy))

We present experimental data on the formation of molecular hydrogen on amorphous water ices obtained in conditions of astrophysical interest. Astrophysical implications of the results obtained are discussed. We also describe the technique and measuring methods that we are currently implementing to measure the vibrational and translational energies of products of recombination reactions as they leave the surface of dust grain analogues.

We are grateful to NASA (through grants NAG5-6822 and NAG5-9093) and the Italian Ministry for University and Scientific Research (through grant 21043088 CNR) for financial support. We thank R. d'Agostino and E. Green for technical assistance.
