[18.04] A VLA and FUSE study of the multi-phase intragroup medium of 2 loose groups of galaxies.

We have obtained VLA HI observations and FUSE UV spectra of two loose groups of galaxies, similar to our own Local Group, in front of background AGNs in order to form a more complete picture of the multi-phase intragroup medium of these groups. The VLA HI maps provide information on the distribution and kinematics of cool, neutral gas inside and outside of group galaxies, while the FUSE UV absorption line data provides us with information on the amount of warm and hot gas within the group. We present HI maps and UV spectra of the groups GH 144 and GH 158 which are in front of the AGN Mrk 817 and Mrk 290, respectively. We also present our preliminary conclusions on the nature of the multi-phase intragroup medium, the evolutionary state of these two groups, and the resulting implications for intragroup gas in the Local Group.
