[152.06] CCD Photometry of Tycho Suspected Variable Stars

The low accuracy of Tycho photometry raises the question of reliability for the large number of new candidate variable stars resulted from that project. In an effort to test this reliability, we carried out precise photometry of one of the suspected periodic variables from the recent list by Koen and Schumann, Tyc 5736-1126-1. Observations were done with the electrophotometer of the 0.5m telescope of the South African Astronomical Observatory. According to Koen and Schumann, the period of this star is 15.62 hours and the amplitude of variations is several tenths of a magnitude. Our data collected so far show that the star may be a variable but the characteristics of variability suggested by Koen and Schumann should be revised. In particular, the amplitude of variations does not surpass several hundredths of a magnitude. More results of the undergoing observations of this and other suspected Tycho variables will be reported at the meeting.
