[62.03] FUSE Observations of the Dwarf Nova VW Hydri During Quiescence

E. M. Sion, F. H. Chang (Villanova Un.), K. S. Long (STScI), P. Szkody (Un. of Washington)

We obtained a FUSE spectrum of the SU UMa-type dwarf nova VW Hydri during quiescence following a normal outburst. The spectrum was taken on August 18, 2001 with an exposure time of 18,000s, a wavelength coverage from 1185Å\ to the Lyman Limit and a central wavelength of 1060Å. The spectrum is dominated by strong H and metallic absorption features. We have carried out a multi-component (disk, accretion belt, high-gravity photosphere) synthetic spectral analysis of the spectrum. Our results are are compared with other studies of VW Hyi carried out at longer UV wavelengths using HUT and HST.

Based on observations made with the NASA-CNES-CSA Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. FUSE is operated for NASA by the Johns Hopkins University under NASA contract NAS5-32985.
