[67.03] Evolution of Supernova Rates and Dust Extinction: Is \Lambda really non-zero ?

R. Chary (UCSC)

Recent estimates of high-redshift star-formation in dust obscured regions are taken in conjunction with the ultraviolet determined star-formation rates to determine the comoving rate of Type 1a and Type II+Ib/c supernovae(SNe) between redshifts 0 and 3. The ratio of the comoving ultraviolet and far-infrared luminosity density is used to estimated the average optical depth to ultraviolet light. Using a monte-carlo technique, the optical depth is translated to an estimate of the average extinction in SNe of Type Ia and Type II and compared with observed values. Implications for the cosmological constant are discussed.
