[38.04] The Review Process: How to prepare for it, and what to expect

V. Pankonin (NSF)

A well written proposal is the first step in obtaining funding through any of the competitive grants programs at NSF. Characteristics of effective proposals will be discussed. Almost all proposals to the Astronomy Division are reviewed by a panel of peers, in a process that NSF has used for the past 5 years. Understanding the review process, especially by participating in it, are important advantages for preparing a successful proposal. The process and timeframe for reaching funding decisions will also be discussed.
