We present the preliminary results from the FUSE observations of the bright nearby narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxy Akn 564. We use the continuum slope to better constrain accretion disk models. High ionization emission lines are detected (e.g.\ O{\sc vi}\lambda\lambda 1032,1038), and their strengths used to derive the physical parameters through photoionization models. We also investigate the presence of the O{\sc vi} doublet in absorption as it strongly constrains the ionization state of the UV absorber. Finally, we compare the properties of this NLS1 galaxy with those of normal Seyfert 1 galaxies.
