Using an archival 35 ks Chandra exposure, we studied the X-ray emission from the nearby (z=0.007465) low-power radiogalaxy NGC 4261 (3C 270), famous for containing a massive black hole from HST observations. The Chandra image confirms the presence of an unresolved point source embedded in a soft X-ray diffuse halo, extending up to 20arcsec (4 kpc) from the core, and faint counterparts to the radio jets. We focus on the X-ray spectrum of the core. This shows hard X-ray emission described by an asorbed power law model with photon index Gamma=1.4. No time variability of the hard X-ray flux is observed during the Chandra exposure. We assemble the broad-band energy distribution of the nucleus and discuss possible geometries of the accretion flow. This work is supported by NASA grant NAG5-10073.
