[30.02] Recommendations of ``Enhancing the Postdoctoral Experience for Scientists and Engineers"

K.B. Marvel (AAS)

The Committee on Employment is sponsoring this session at which Dr. Maxine Singer, President of the Carnegie Institution, will present the recommendations of a recent report, which she produced as chair of a NAS Committee. These recommendations are for postdocs, advisors, universities, funding agencies and professional societies. This session will also serve as a dialogue among these interrelated groups to find ways of implementing the recommendations most appropriate for our community.

After the presentation by Dr. Singer, a panel of AAS members will discuss the report's recommendations from their point of view and field questions about how they or their organizations are implementing the report's recommendations. Panel members will include Dr. Jack Burns, the Vice-provost for research for the University of Missouri and Dr. Andrea Schweitzer, the chair of the AAS Committee on Employment. Two postdocs will also participate in the panel discussion.
