[58.17] Scaling relations, anisotropy and mode coupling for compressible interstellar turbulence

A. Lazarian, J. Cho (UW-Madison)

We decompose MHD perturbations into Alfven, slow and fast modes and study their properties. We consider interactions of modes and establish scaling relations for Alfven modes that coinside with the Goldreich-Shridhar (GS) scaling for incompressible turbulence. We find that the scaling and anisotropy of the slow and fast modes is expected to be different from the GS. We confirm our predictions using numerical simulations. We study coupling of different modes in compressible turbulence and its concequencies for the transfer of energy from the sources of turbulence. We discuss Astrophysical implications of the established scalings.
