[37.06] DoAr24E & Elias 26: Shedding Light on Pre-Main-Sequence Binary Evolution

M. Barsony (JPL & SSI), C.D. Koresko (JPL), K. Matthews (CIT)

We present spatially-resolved images of two pre-main-sequence binaries in Ophiuchus, DoAr24E and Elias 26, at J, H, K, and N bands. The JHK shift-and-add images were acquired in July 2001 with the NIR speckle system at the Palomar 5-meter. Diffraction-limited N-band images were acquired with JPL's MIRLIN mid-infrared camera on the same telescope. DoAr24E is a 2\prime\prime separation Infrared Companion system, whereas Elias 26 is a 1.6\prime\prime separation T-Tauri star binary. Spatially-resolved spectral energy distributions will be presented. These are used in conjunction with published near-infrared spectroscopy to derive the best currently available estimates of the luminosities, extinctions, and spectral types of the individual components. Using the coevality constraint for the formation of such close binaries, the derived source properties are used to constrain available pre-main-sequence tracks. Disk properties for each source, including disk emission variability, will also be discussed.
