[10.17] Thermal emission from HeI under nebular conditions

R. Porter, R. Baumann, G. Ferland (University of Kentucky, Dept. of Physics & Astronomy)

We are working to implement a series of model ions for the helium-like isoelectronic sequence into the spectral simulation code Cloudy. We have developed a method, based on quantum defects, that allows an arbitrarily large number of levels to be treated with accurate energy levels, transition probabilities, and photoionization cross sections, for all species from HeI to ZnXXIX. Here we show the HeI continuous emission spectrum produced under nebular conditions. Our results show significant differences from standard tables of nebular emission, which are based on far less accurate atomic data.
