[126.16] New Limits on the 44Sc 67.9 and 78.4 keV Line Fluxes from Cassiopeia A with a Realistic Model Hard X-ray Continuum

We apply a recently developed model for the hard X-ray (up to 100 keV) continuum emission from the supernova remnant Cas A to a deep observation with the BeppoSAX PDS instrument. Our aim is to determine more realistic limits on the fluxes of 44Sc line emission (44Sc is a decay product of 44Ti, produced in alpha-rich freeze out during the explosion), and to exploit the diagnostic potential of the continuum itself in terms of the velocities of secondary shocks propagating within the Cas A shell and the density contrasts that cause them.
