[8.02] The Advanced Camera for Surveys

H.C. Ford (The Johns Hopkins University), Advanced Camera for Surveys Science Team

The Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) will be installed in the Hubble Space Telescope during the fourth servicing mission (SM-3B), which is scheduled for February 2002. All thermal-vacuum tests and alignment tests have been completed; the ACS meets the performance goals that were set at the beginning of the program.

By the time of the AAS meeting the ACS should be at the Kennedy Space Flight Center undergoing integration into its carrier and the Space Shuttle. In this paper we describe the ACS and its different imaging modes, and present the measured performance of the three cameras.

Funding for the ACS is provided by NASA.
