[52.13] A Multi-Wavelength Study of Barred, Flocculent Galaxies

D. L. Ratay, S. T. Gottesman (University of Florida)

We present preliminary observations for a multi-wavelength (HI, near-IR, and optical) study of barred, flocculent disk galaxies. Typically, isolated, barred disk galaxies show grand design structure (Elmegreen & Elmegreen 1982). Yet, there are a few isolated, barred galaxies which do not show this structure. Our study attempts to determine if the lack of pronounced spiral structure in our sample galaxies is due to dynamics resultant from the bar, the disk itself, or some other external factor such as a minor interaction.
