[39.04] Modeling the Accretion Streams in Polars

J. L. Cash (University of Wyoming)

I present the current results of my modeling of the accretion streams in polars, a catagory of magnetic cataclysmic variables. The goal of this research is to create a detailed model of the full accretion stream from the L1 point to the white dwarf surface. These numerical stream models yield the detailed distribution of gas throughout the stream, including a 3-dimensional map of the coupling positions and the distribution of local mass transfer rates across the white dwarf surface. In addition, the flexibility available in the code allows me to compare the affects of common assumptions about the physical processes present in the stream.
