[100.10] Chandra X-ray Imaging of a Protocluster Region

M.W. Bautz (MIT Center for Space Research), G.P. Garmire (Penn State Univesity)

We present X-ray images from a 75 ksec Chandra observation of a field in Selected Survey Area 22 known to contain an overdensity of Lyman-break galaxies, as well as two extended, luminous Lyman-alpha sources, at redshift z=3.1. One of these blobs has previously been detected in the submillimeter. We discuss the implications of our X-ray flux constraints for the emission mechanism of the extended sources.

This research has been supported by NASA Contract NAS 8-38252.
