[55.02] The ISO-IRAS Faint Galaxy Spectroscopic Survey

B.D. Siana, H.E. Smith (UC San Diego/CASS), C. J. Lonsdale, R.L. Hurt (Infrared Processing and Analysis Center)

We present spectroscopic results of 125 galaxies associated with 116 60 \mu m sources from the ISO-IRAS Faint Galaxy Survey (IIFGS; Lonsdale, et al. 2000) obtained at Lick and Palomar Observatories. The redshift range of the survey is 0.04 \le z \le 0.6 with an average of z = 0.2. Over 95% of the objects are emission line galaxies with 25% exhibiting AGN line ratios and 20% showing pure starburst excitation. The remainder show intermediate (LINER) excitation or can not be unambiguously classified due to limited spectral line detection. The impact of these observations on the evolution of luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) and on future ingrared galaxy surveys will be discussed. This work was supported by the NSF and NASA.
