[54.04] Rotation of main-sequence stars at zero age and beyond

S. A. Barnes (Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison)

Rotation measurements of young main-sequence stars suggest a large range in rotation created by processes on the pre-main sequence. I will summarize and review these observations, as revealed by measurements in a series of open clusters, and draw attention to some deficiencies in the available dataset. Finally, I will also discuss the validity of some of the current beliefs in rotational evolution beyond the early stages.
