We compute the real-space power spectrum and the redshift-space distortions of galaxies in early SDSS data and discuss cosmological implications. We use pseudo-Karhunen-Loeve eigenmodes and the stochastic bias formalism to obtain easy-to-interpret uncorrelated minimum-variance measurements of the galaxy-galaxy, galaxy-velocity and velocity-velocity power spectra with narrow and well-behaved window functions despite the rather complicated interim survey geometry. A series of tests are presented that allow potential systematic errors to be constrained.
