The first extragalactic X-ray-emitting SNRs were uncovered in the LMC and M33; the first such SNR outside of the Local Group is the very luminous one in NGC 4449 (D ~ 5 Mpc) uncovered using Einstein. Since that time, some 20 additional SNRs have been found using ROSAT or ASCA. The launches of Chandra and Newton promise a significant step forward in the identification of X-ray-emitting SNRs, particularly using Chandra, which locates objects to within an arc-second. In this talk, I briefly review the numbers of objects found in the X-ray band and highlight the SNRs uncovered by Chandra.
