After a twenty-two year hiatus, we again have the ability to view the solar flare hard X-ray spectrum with the full capability needed to resolve its features. HESSI became operational on 12 February with an energy resolution of 1 keV FWHM below 100 keV. With a threshold of about 4 keV, and a dynamic range expanded by a system of movable x-ray translucent shutters, we have seen a full spectrum of hard X-ray flares. We will show this full range of spectra, with thermal and non-thermal fits as the data suggests, for a wide class of events. We will particularly concentrate on the shape of the spectrum at the peak and close to the peak of the high energy burst during the event.
