We present preliminary results from our recently obtained deep, high resolution (R=30000) echelle spectra of the planetary nebula IC 418. Numerous weak lines have been detected at fluxes down to \approx 1.0 \times 10-5 that of H\beta, and identified with our EMILI line identification software. Spatially resolved line profiles are also presented for some of the stronger lines, and we discuss the implications of our findings for the discrepancies in intensities of recombination and collisionally excited forbidden lines originating from the same ion.
