[69.01] RHESSI Level-0 Data Handling and Quicklook Data Products

J. M. McTiernan (University of California), RHESSI Team

The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) satellite was launched in February 2002. RHESSI provides images and spectra of solar flares in the energy range from 3 keV to 10 MeV.

Since launch, we have been accumulating data at a rate of approximately 1.8 Gbytes/day. RHESSI data are stored in level-0 data files as telemetry packets, as received from the spacecraft, in FITS binary tables.

There are typically two level-0 data files (max. size of 100 Mbytes) per spacecraft orbit. Supplementary catalog data is appended to each level-0 file, and also is stored in daily catalog files. Other quicklook data products are also generated and stored online.

In this presentation we discuss the handling of the level-0 data from its arrival at UCB Science Operations Center (SOC) through its appearance in the online data archive. We also provide a summary of the RHESSI quicklook data products. Data access is demonstrated using examples obtained from the data.

This work is funded by NASA through grant NAS5-98033.
