[24.05] The Stanford Cluster Search

B. F. Mathiesen (LLNL), K. L. Thompson (Stanford)

The Stanford Cluster Search (StaCS) is a deep optical survey of galaxy clusters utilizing the Supernova Cosmology Project's image database. Clusters are identified using a modified matched filter algorithm and will be followed up at the Hobby-Eberly Telescope, Apache Point Observatory, and SOAR. We are currently in the process of assembling a sample of poor clusters out to redshifts of 1 with robust redshift and velocity dispersion estimates. The Poor Cluster Sample from the StaCS catalogue will be used as a basis for measuring the degree of thermal evolution in clusters on mass scales where the potential well does not dominate the physics of the intracluster medium. The long-term results from this program will lay the necessary foundation for cluster luminosity and temperature measurements to be used as robust estimators of their virial mass.
