[7.07] The Astronomical Almanac: Changes in the 2003 edition, plans for the future

S. Howard (USNO)

The 2003 edition of The Astronomical Almanac contains several enhancements. The 2003 edition is the first edition to use the JPL DE405/LE405 ephemerides (that are aligned with the ICRF). A Web site now complements the book: The Astronomical Almanac Online at http://asa.usno.navy.mil and http://asa.nao.rl.ac.uk. The Section on Minor Planets and Comets includes ephemerides for the 15 largest minor planets. The Landolt UBVRI standards replace the Johnson standards. There are basic physical and photometric data for several new planetary satellites. Upcoming changes include incorporating an improved precession/nutation model. Suggestions and plans for the future resulting from the IERS Workshop 2002: Implementation of the New IAU Resolution will be presented.
