The arrival of the 2.7 sq. arcmin field-of-view SHARC II bolometer array camera at the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory provides the opportunity to investigate galaxy evolution by means of deep surveys at 350\mum, a previously unexplored waveband. Using an observation strategy determined by source count models - our own and those from the literature - we have begun a highly flexible observational campaign designed to maximise the number of 3\sigma source detections at a flux density limit of or below 15mJy. Such sources are expected to be ultraluminous galaxies (ULIRGs) at a redshift between 1-2, which will complement the studies of SCUBA 850\mum ULIRG sources, with a median redshift of 2.5-3, and the ISO FIRBACK low-redshift normal galaxies. A survey of this kind is able to determine factors such as galaxy evolution and number density of ULIRG galaxies.
