[105.06] The 4-meter All-Sky Survey (4MASS): Initial Results

We discuss preliminary results of the ongoing 4 Meter All Sky Survey (4MASS). The first all-sky survey at such a low frequency, 4MASS will map the entire sky above \delta = -30\circ at 74 MHz with a resolution of 80'' using the Very Large Array. The principle data products from this survey will be a set of publicly available images and a catalog of N \approx 9 \times 104 sources. From this catalog, statistically useful samples of extra-galactic and Galactic objects, such as high redshift radio galaxies, galaxy clusters and supernova remnants, can be assembled for further study. Already 10% complete, we discuss some of the preliminary scientific results from this survey. Source counts and spectral statistics from the 0.9 sr of sky currently surveyed will be presented. In particular, the nature of ultra-steep spectrum objects will be explored, including our identifications of candidate high redshift radio galaxies, cluster halo emission, and at least one known pulsar.
