[3.01] Testing Thermal Conduction in Cluster and Group Cooling-Flows

Thermal conduction has been proposed as an effective heat source to account for the lack of cold material expected in cooling-flow clusters. We chose a sample of about 10 nearby clusters and groups observed with Chandra to test if conduction could be effective. We find that generally thermal conduction cannot compensate the radiative energy loss in the central core regions, although it can compensate for radiation losses outside the central region. We will discuss the importance of nuclear activity from the central galaxy in providing energy to the gas in the inner cluster/group cores.
