[74.02] The Nearby Stars (NStars) Program at Appalachian State University, Vatican Observatory, and David Dunlap Observatory

The NStars program at Appalachian State University, the Vatican Observatory, and the David Dunlap Observatory is in the final year of a project to obtain spectra, spectral types and basic physical parameters for all 3600 dwarf and giant stars earlier than M0 within 40 parsecs of the sun. This project is being carried out under the Nearby Stars (NStars)/Space Interferometry Mission Preparatory Science program. This poster will illustrate the preliminary results for the program stars, including precise, homogeneous spectral types, basic physical parameters, such as the effective temperature, surface gravity and metallicity ([M/H]), and a measure of the chromospheric activity. Interelationships between these data products (such as effective temperature calibrations of MK spectral types and Johnson and Stromgren photometry, and the metallicity distribution of the nearby stars with planets) will be illustrated. The project website, which allows access to all these data will be demonstrated at the poster.
